20 May 2021 – Looking Ahead to 2030: A New Global Decade of Road Safety Action in Portugal, the EU and Africa – Online Event
On behalf of Mr. Eduardo Cabrita, Minister for Home Affairs of Portugal, acting as Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and Ms Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport, ETSC was delighted to organise the online event: Looking Ahead to 2030: A New Global Decade of Road Safety Action in Portugal, the EU and Africa, on Thursday 20 May 2021.

The event was in two parts:
Session I focussed on Road Safety in the EU – Looking ahead to 2030. During this session there were keynote addresses from Ms. Patrícia Gaspar, Secretary of State for Home Affairs, Portugal and Ms Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport.
There was also a presentation from the Portuguese Road Safety Authority (Autoridade Nacional de Segurança Rodoviária) on Portugal’s national road safety strategy.
Session II, as part of the UN Road Safety Week, focussed on the theme Road safety in Africa : what role for EU development policy?
During this session there were keynote addresses from Mr Jean Todt, UN Special Envoy for Road Safety, and H. E. Dr. Amani Abou-Zeid, African Union Commissioner in charge of Infrastructure, Energy & ICT
There were also presentations from the European Commission, a representative from Mozambique, a representative from Angola, the Global Road Safety Partnership and the World Resources Institute.
