In the framework of the Safe and Sober project, the Road Safety Institute Panos Mylonas and the European Transport Safety Council organised an international conference on drink-driving and the use of alcohol interlocks on the 3rd of November 2025 in Athens.
Representatives from the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Health, Hellenic Police, Road Safety Institute (RSI) and Road Transport Company S.A.(OSY S.A) animated the debate. International experts from Belgium and Norway shared their national legislation on alcohol interlocks as an effective tool to reduce the number of alcohol-related road deaths in their own countries, while the commercial use of the device in Sweden was also presented. The event also covered an overview of the drink-driving situation in Greece and discussed a potential development of alcohol interlock programmes at national level.
An alcohol interlock demonstration took place during coffee break and lunch.
