German insurer says zero tolerance age limit for young drivers should be increased
Allianz Germany, an insurer, says the country’s zero tolerance alcohol policy for young drivers should be increased from 20 to 24 years.
Drivers in the age group 21-24 are twice as likely to be drunk when involved in an accident than younger or older drivers according to their research.
DVR, ETSC’s German member, says the current laws have led to a ‘now I can’ effect, with young drivers finding drinking before driving more acceptable once they pass their 21st birthday when the extra legal restriction no longer applies. DVR says zero tolerance should be the standard for all drivers.
