Professional driver fatigue measurement – can you answer a survey to help with new EU-funded research?
While it is commonly recognised that fatigue is a major factor in a large proportion of road crashes, an objective method to measure fatigue while driving is not yet defined.
The FitDrive project, focused on professional drivers, has defined an AI-based indirect and non-intrusive method to define, with a good level of likelihood, if a driver is affected by fatigue. The AI needs an initial ‘calibration’ phase, i.e. one month, to profile the individual driving behaviour and define a model of “personal usual behaviour”, then it will be possible to measure deviations from the “usual way of driving” and associate these deviations to an impairment status (e.g. drowsiness).
The results of the FitDrive project (which will be made public to encourage OEMs to use them) may contribute to improving road safety.
In order to adequately prepare a discussion on this topic, a short questionnaire has been prepared for all interested stakeholders, who are invited to reply by 11 October 2024.
