The European Transport Safety Council, together with the Road Safety Institute (RSI) Panos Mylonas organised a round-table event at the Hellenic Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks to raise awareness amongst policy makers, the private sector and key opinion leaders of how to strenghten a systemic approach to reduce alcohol misuse in road transport.
The event focused on measures to tackle drink driving such as the use of alcohol interlocks, research findings and case studies from EU Member States. Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis, as well as Giorgos Oursouzidis, President of the Inter-Ministerial Permanent Committee of the Greek Parliament and MEP Miltiadis Kyrkos analysed road safety trends and discussed upcoming challenges. An interdisciplinary round-table discussion gathering officials and civil society representatives provided participants with a multi-sector debate on the applicability of measures implemented in Austria, Belgium, France as well as other EU Member States.
