  • March 10, 2025

Volkswagen will reintroduce physical buttons in its upcoming vehicle models, starting with the ID.2all. This move comes after customer feedback and safety concerns regarding the usability of touchscreens for essential vehicle functions.

Volkswagen’s design chief, Andreas Mindt, acknowledged that the shift to touchscreens for vital controls was “a mistake”.

Starting with the ID.2all, Volkswagen will include physical buttons for key functions such as volume control, heating, fan speed, and hazard lights. The Volkswagen shift in policy follows the announcement of upcoming changes to the Euro NCAP safety rating protocols. Beginning in 2026, vehicles will need to have physical controls for essential functions to achieve a five-star safety rating.
