Enforcement marathon yields increase in German speeders

  • September 20, 2014

The second annual nationwide speed enforcement marathon in Germany registered 93,000 speed violations in 24 hours. Of the more than three million motorists checked, approximately three percent were going too fast according to figures released by the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of the Interior in September.

More than 13,000 police officers worked at 7,500 locations in the hunt for speeders in all 16 German states; 10,000 more speeding offences than last year were recorded despite the fact that 2,000 fewer police were in place to carry out checks and 1,000 fewer locations were targeted. The number of checked cars was roughly the same as in 2013.
