30 km/h is the default speed limit on single-lane urban roads in Spain since 11 May, the culmination of a policy announced in changes to the Spanish general road law as far back as  2014. Greek government launches new road safety action plan

The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis launched an ambitious new national road safety action plan earlier this month.  At the heart of the proposals are a target to reduce deaths by 50% by 2030 and the development of a National Road Safety Strategic Plan 2021-2030 by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. European Investment Bank to fund treatment of 7000 high risk sites in Greece

The European Investment Bank has agreed to co-finance a EUR 470 million nationwide programme to reduce death and injury caused by traffic collisions across Greece, the first investment of its kind by the EIB. A major new highway was inaugurated in Greece earlier this month running between Corinth and Patra. One of the tunnels along the route has been named in memory of Panos Mylonas, whose death in 2004 in a road crash inspired the creation of the road safety organisation RSI Panos Mylonas, ETSC’s long-standing member organisation in Greece. ETSC’s Greek member organisation RSI Panos Mylonas has strongly rejected a government proposal to cut fines for traffic offences including speeding and use of mobile phones at the wheel. The plans came to light in a Sunday newspaper interview with deputy minister Nikolaos Toskas. A large-scale public awareness campaign was launched this Summer in Greece by ETSC member the Road Safety Institute ‘Panos Mylonas’ targeting holidaying foreigners and locals.
