Commissioner-designate to face MEPs in November
The European Commissioner-designate with responsibility for transport, Apostolos Tzitzikostas has told MEPs “enhancing transport safety will be at the forefront” of his work, ahead of a parliamentary hearing scheduled for 4 November.
Mr Tzitzikostas made the statement in written answers to questions from members of the European Parliament’s transport and tourism committee. An update to roadworthiness legislation, which provides the framework for periodic technical checks of road vehicles across the European Union, will be delivered ‘early’ in the Commissioner’s mandate, he said.
Meanwhile, MEPs from several parliamentary groups have signed-up in support of ETSC’s #IWILLBEALIFESAVER campaign, recommitting to the EU’s target to cut road deaths by half by 2030 as well as policy measures that will help achieve that goal.
