Brussels considers curbs on large private pick-ups in “light and safe” zone
The newly formed government of the Brussels-Capital Region is considering restrictions on large private pick-up trucks as part of ongoing efforts to make streets safer and more sustainable.
Since January 2025, tax breaks linked to commercial vehicles were already removed for privately owned pick-ups. But according to media reports, further taxes or charges could be placed on the largest, heaviest vehicles such as the Ford Raptor, Ford F-150 and Dodge RAM when used effectively as large passenger cars, and not for professional purposes. The charges could apply in a new “light and safe” (LISA) zone, in parallel to the existing low emissions zone, which restricts older diesel and petrol vehicles with high air pollutant emissions.
