Portugal workshop – 26 May 2021
The sixth online EU Road Safety Exchange workshop brought together experts from Portugal and Sweden. The topic of discussion was safe urban infrastructure, with a focus on the science behind designing safe infrastructure, as well as concrete measures for improving the safety of pedestrians and cyclists from the City of Malmö.
The workshop was virtually hosted by the National Authority for Road Safety of Portugal (ANSR), with the active participation of representatives from the municipalities of Lisbon and Cascais, Infraestruturas de Portugal, LNEC, Prevenção Rodoviária Portuguesa PRP, MPT-Mobilidade e Planeamento do Território and of Civil Engineering Department of the University of Coimbra.
Lars Ekman from the Swedish Transport Administration and Maria Brodde Makri from the City of Malmö provided insight into the Swedish way of building a safe urban environment based on the Vision Zero approach and exchanged ideas in a lively debate with the Portuguese colleagues.
The workshop will be followed by a study visit to the Sweden in 2021.
