Lithuania

Lithuania has made significant improvements in road safety over the past decade, with a remarkable 60% reduction in road deaths since 2012. This achievement is the highest among all EU Member States and the only country to reach the EU-wide goal of a 50% reduction. Lithuania’s commitment to solving road safety challenges through legislative updates, expanded automated enforcement, and improved road infrastructure has led to positive results.

In 2022, Lithuania’s number of road deaths per million people – 43 – fell below the EU average for the first time. However, further progress is necessary to maintain this momentum and ensure continuous improvement. After a successful participation in the pilot phase of the EURSE project, Lithuania continues its road safety journey in the new phase.
