12 March 2026 – (Online) EU Road Safety Exchange III Launch Event
12 March 2026, 14:30-16:30 CEST
Despite overall progress, the road safety performance across Europe still varies widely. A new phase of the EU Road Safety Exchange (EURSE III) project aims to help close the gap by enabling authorities at national, regional and local level to learn from proven road safety solutions.
The launch event marked the start of the third phase of the EU Road Safety Exchange (EURSE III), and brought together authorities from across Europe committed to work on concrete road safety challenges and share practical solutions.
The event was originally planned to take place in Cyprus alongside the High-Level Group on Road Safety under the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. Due to recent regional developments, it was held online on 12 March 2026. The programme opened with a welcome address by Dr Marina Ioannou Hasapi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works of Cyprus. Kristian Schmidt, Director for Land Transport at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Mobility and Transport and EU Road Safety Coordinator, highlighted EU road safety priorities and expressed his support for the project.
EURSE III places a stronger emphasis on the role of cities and regions, where key decisions such as speed limits, street design and the management of micromobility are taken. It also addresses emerging areas including safe automation, the use of AI in enforcement and road management, climate resilience of infrastructure, and new forms of mobility.
The launch event introduced the new phase of the project and its activity calendar, including planned study visits hosted by national authorities, cities, and regions. It also presented new formats, such as expert forums, thematic workshops, and best practice seminars and explained how participating countries will take part in each of them.
The project will run until December 2027 and aims to involve authorities from all EU Member States, at national, regional or local levels.
